The 7th annual conference features plenary panels, and interactive workshops on a variety of topics related to supply chain management and logistics in global health and humanitarian response and development, as well as poster sessions on innovative research and ample opportunities for networking. The 2015 class brought together a geographically diverse group of 27 students who have lived and worked in 42 different countries, spanning across non-governmental organizations, government, private sector, academia and other organizations in the global health and humanitarian sectors.

*The above IMPACT Speaker Series events are co-organized with the Institute for Leadership and Entrepreneurship (ILE) at the Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business and will take place at LeCraw Auditorium, 800 West Peachtree Street.

2014-15 SENIOR DESIGN PROJECTS
HHS Center co-directors Pinar Keskinocak and Julie Swann led 3 teams of undergraduates in the Stewart School of Industrial & Systems Engineering to design systems-based solutions and economic analysis to solve health challenges.

• Improving Patient Wait Times for the Emory Winship Cancer Institute Ambulatory Infusion Center
  The Fall 2014 senior design team for the Emory Winship Cancer Institute took home first prize in the Senior Design competition for their work improving patient wait time reduction. The visibility tool developed by the team has been implemented at the Winship Institute and has made a significant impact on the reduction of patient wait times.

• Developing an Infectious Encephalitis Risk Calculator for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
  The Fall 2014 senior design team working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) developed two decision-support tools to aid organ transplant for physicians (and patients) in the identification and allocation of organs that carry the risk of infectious encephalitis. The project resulted in descriptive models to provide wait times customized to patient characteristics.
• Optimizing Treatment Availability During Ebola Outbreak in Guinea for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
  The Spring 2015 senior design team working with the CDC designed a simulation to project the spread of Ebola cases within Guinea, overlaid with heuristics to trigger when and where to place treatment facilities.

DESIGNING A WORKFORCE ALLOCATION OPTIMIZATION TOOL
Drs. Julie Swann and Pinar Keskinocak collaborated with the Task Force for Global Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Ministry of Health in Mozambique along with former Georgia Tech students on an optimization tool for workforce allocation of healthcare professionals in Mozambique.
