The Keynote presentations will feature Dr. Anne Schuchat, Principal Deputy Director, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), on Monday 8/29, as well as an interview style talk with Michelle Nunn, CEO of CARE USA, interviewed by Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Chief Medical Correspondent from CNN, on Tuesday, 8/30 on topics related to health systems, humanitarian emergencies, and refugee populations.

Plenary panel topics will focus on the below topics.

  • Strengthening Public Health Systems
  • Managing Complex Supply Chains in Refugee Crisis Response
  • Matching Supply with Demand in Emergency Response

2015 was recorded as the hottest year on record, and September 2015 marked the 10th anniversary of the devastating lessons of Hurricane Katrina and the response that followed. After the apparent containment of the Ebola virus outbreak in West Africa, the world bristles at the potential spread of other viruses and focuses on the ongoing need for improved infrastructure and coordination in health systems around the world.

Each year the HHL Conference brings together speakers and attendees from non-government organizations (NGOs), industry, government, military, and academia to identify challenges and opportunities in global health humanitarian operations and long-term economic development. Topics often focus on operations in global health, food security, emergency response and end-to-end supply chain management, emphasizing priorities and future goals in research, policy, strategy, and investments.

The 2016 event will feature plenary panels and interactive workshops on a variety of topics related to supply chain management and logistics in global health and humanitarian response and development, as well as poster sessions on innovative research and ample opportunities for networking. For information on speakers, panel topics, health and humanitarian site visits, see: chhs.gatech.edu/conference/.
The 2016 conference is made possible by generous support from the UPS Foundation (now for the 8th year). *Note that the first two registrants from an NGO (for example, the first two employees from UNHCR (from any country) or other NGO) may apply for reimbursement of the registration fee following the conference.

The 8th edition of the Health & Humanitarian Logistics (HHL) Conference returns to Georgia Tech after traveling to Hamburg (2012), Kuala Lumpur (2013), Mexico City (2014), and Johannesburg (2015).  The Georgia Tech Center for Health & Humanitarian Systems (CHHS) will host the conference in partnership with co-organizers from INSEAD, MIT, Northeastern University, and the University of Lugano in Switzerland.
