Extreme By Design is the story of three Stanford students who design low-cost products that meet basic needs of the world's poor. During a 6-month course, Design for Extreme Affordability, they travel to Bangladesh and Indonesia and race to build life-saving breathing devices, IV medicine infusion pumps, and fresh water storage systems. PBS will air the hour-long film nationwide on Dec. 11 at 10 pm (right after NOVA).

Tuesday, November 5th at 7:30PM in Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons, Room 152 we will be hosting a sneak peek at the hour-long documentary film followed by a Q&A panel with the fillmmaker, Ralph King, our HHL Center Co-Director Dr. Ozlem Ergun, Coordinator for the Center for Design Thinking at Mt. Vernon Presbyterian School- Mary Cantwell, and VP of Innovation for First Data- Scott Sanchez.

Wednesday, November 6th from 4:30-6PM in the Student Success Center, Press Room B, we will host an interactive design workshop led by filmmaker Raplh King and Stanford graduate Erica Estrada. The workshop begins with a design challenge and covers five design steps (empathize, define, ideate, prototype, test). • EXTREME BY DESIGN, airing in primetime nationally on PBS in 2013, follows a band of college students who design and build products to solve seemingly intractable problems for the world’s poor. One student’s team must create a breathing device to keep babies in Bangladesh from dying of pneumonia. Another seeks a way to store drinking water for Indonesian villagers.
