Kigali (Kinyarwanda: [Kiɡɑɾí]) is the capital and largest city of Rwanda. It is near the nation's geographic centre. The city has been Rwanda's economic, cultural, and transport hub since it became capital at independence in 1962. The city hosts the main residence and offices of the President of Rwanda and government ministries. The city is within the province of Kigali City, which was enlarged in January 2006, as part of local government reorganisation in the country. Kigali's city limits cover the whole province; it is consolidated. The city's urban area covers about 70% of the municipal boundaries.

Travel Info

Airport & Arrival

Attendees should book air travel into Kigali International Airport. It is the country's main airport, but it is also of regional importance as it serves Congolese, Burundian and Ugandan cities.

The Rwandan Franc is the currency of Rwanda, commonly referred to as the “RWF”. The single easiest place to exchange your currency is at the airport. Local time zone will be Central Africa Time (CAT) GMT+2.

Rwanda has a temperate tropical highland climate, with lower temperatures than are typical for equatorial countries due to its high elevation. Kigali, in the centre of the country, has a typical daily temperature range between 12 °C (54 °F) and 27 °C (81 °F), with little variation through the year.

In Rwanda the power plugs and sockets are of type C and J. The standard voltage is 230 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz.
